STOROJET Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) at Angelplatz.de: 405% more efficiency, reduced labor costs and full amortization within only 2.2 years
When moving into its new warehouse in 2022, Angelplatz.de integrated its existing STOROJET Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) into ongoing operations. During this process, the system was expanded and specifically adapted to the company’s operational requirements. The total floor space increased by 200 square meters to 585 square meters. Two additional lifts were also integrated, improving both storage capacity and performance while reducing access times. The system upgrade was completed without interrupting day-to-day operations, ensuring a smooth continuation of shipping and order fulfillment processes.
Only the design of the load carriers was modified by Angelplatz to precisely accommodate the company’s extensive product range. The customized load carriers feature modular lengths between 50 and 90 centimeters, allowing efficient storage of a wide variety of product sizes and packaging types.
With the implementation of the STOROJET AS/RS, Angelplatz completely restructured its warehouse processes. The storage towers, consisting of multiple levels connected by integrated lifts, now provide a compact and scalable storage solution across 585 square meters of floor space. The system’s high performance enables Angelplatz to run the entire warehouse operation in a half-day shift while significantly increasing both efficiency and throughput. As a result, labor costs have been reduced, travel distances shortened, storage and retrieval operations accelerated, and error rates significantly decreased.
"We mainly use two ports for order dispatch," explains Managing Director Jens Senghaas. "The staff working there achieve up to 250 picks per hour, whereas previously performance was around one fifth of that. These two ports alone save us about eight employees. The handling of goods and returns is many times faster with STOROJET, and new staff can become productive immediately thanks to the intuitive user interface and integrated pick-by-light system."
The 405% increase in efficiency led to a significant improvement in overall cost-effectiveness. Energy consumption and operating expenses remain low, while process speed and system availability stay consistently high. The ability to maintain warehouse operations in a half-day shift further reduces running costs. The STOROJET AS/RS can be connected to any standard WMS and integrates seamlessly into existing IT infrastructures. The amortization period of the system is just 2.2 years, demonstrating the long-term economic sustainability of the investment.
Conclusion: Sustainable relief and future-proof logistics For Angelplatz, the use of the STOROJET AS/RS means noticeable relief for staff, better space utilization and a long-term, future-proof warehouse strategy. The system grows with the company, remains modular and expandable, and ensures consistently high availability alongside impressive process speed. STOROJET demonstrates how modern warehouse automation is redefining logistics for medium-sized enterprises.
